Gunman Kills More Than Two Dozen at Connecticut School

It’s a statistical fact that you are safer at school than you are anywhere else.

The chance of something happening to you like what happened at a school in Connecticut on Friday is as close to zero as you can possibly get.

That’s why when something so horrible does happen, it’s news.

On Friday, a 20-year-old man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed at least 26 people, including 20 kids and the school’s principal.

He then killed himself.

Police say the man also killed his mother at her home before going to the school.

According to published reports, his mother had been a teacher’s aide there.

There were reports that the gunman had a history of mental illness.

But as of Friday evening, it was still not clear why he did what he did.

And apparently, this was not a case in which the guns that were used were acquired illegally.

According to CBS News, the three weapons found on the gunman had been bought legally and were registered to his mother.

At a news conference on Friday, President Obama’s eyes filled with tears as he spoke about the kids who were killed. “They had their entire lives ahead of them – birthdays, weddings, kids of their own,” he told reporters at a White House news conference.

The President also pledged to take action to prevent any additional school shootings.

“We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the last few years,” he said.

Of course, one is one too many.
